Beam and block suspended flooring is suitable for ground and upper floors; domestic or commercial applications. Inverted ‘T’ beams are secured to form a base structure for placement of thermalite or aggregate blocks.
Technical Info
Bearing: 100mm (standard) / 75mm (with steel reinforcement).
Suspension Height: 75mm (standard) – 150mm (clay).
Nominal Depth: 150mm to 225mm.
Benefits
Saves time and money during installation as builders can work on the platform immediately.
Reduced site preparation – no hardcore / no over-site concreting.
Blocks absorb and store heat when it’s warm and releases as the temperature drops.
Increases the load bearing capacity of the foundation by transferring the load of the building to mass concrete bases.
Maintenance free as method is damp, rot and draught proof.
Process
Site preparation is quick and easy; top soil and vegetation is removed, the support wall is then constructed and lined with continuous damp-proof course.
BEAMS
Once the masonry mortar has cured and the surface cleared of debris, the beams can be placed within the bearings. A structural design will instruct the contractor on the beam spacing for the to support the future load. Beams placed side by side creates a small space that requires in-situ concrete to fill the gap above the flanges.
PLACEMENT
Infill blocks are placed starting from the outside and working inwards to make sure the correct amount of spacing is applied.
